Will this be the wettest summer in decades?

Another major storm went through our area last night. Seems like we get one of these every third day or so with more likely we get several days in row of them. There is a depression on the side yard that fills up with run off from the rain and scarcely has there been a day when there is not some water in it.

At least the wading pool is getting fresh water because of the rain. I really do not like working on pools. I remember all of the time I used to spend on Andrea’s in-ground pool before we got married and it never got really clean despite the effort and all of the chemicals tossed into it. For this year’s pool, I already have spend too much time on it. Filled it up last week with 300 gallons of water which I had to drain because of the debris that got into it as well as the fact that the water was shifted to one side creating a pseudo deep end. This was because the grass underneath was not level straight across. Lifting up the pool revealed a stinky rotting mess that certainly made an impression on Madeleine. Took me a hour or so of digging and raking to remove the rotted grass and then make the surface a bit more level. I let the ground dry out overnight and then put the pool back into place and refilled it again. I think that much water will cost me $8 on the next water bill.

Of course, there are other problems too with that pool now in the backyard. Mowing the backyard grass is more difficult as I have to avoid shooting grass cuttings into the pool. Then I have to keep skimming the water to remove bugs and leaves from it and remember to give it a shot of algaecide especially after a rainstorm. All this effort so that my baby will have some fun in the water and a place to cool off on a hot day.

The hockey finals is down to the last game as Pittsburgh came back for game six last night. That sets up a momentous game seven in Detroit Thursday. Right now experience and youth are evenly match. So which team will prevail? My bet is Detroit.

Gas prices have gone up 40 cents now in the past two months. That increase is starting to hurt people in the pocketbook now including me. Things are tough as it is without having increasing prices. The economic recovery may be killed before it really gets started.

Finally a shout out to my Father as he celebrates his birthday today. Happy birthday Dad!
