The recession has just started to bite now for most people but already several local businesses have closed shop in the past month or will do so soon. Some are local while others are national.
Linen and Things is now gone, finally shutting its doors on Hanes Mill Road. KB Toys in the Hanes Mall could not even make it past Christmas. Goodys, a regional clothing chain started its liquidation sales last week.
Local stores closing include neighbouring stores If It’s Paper and Pink Minx on Reynolda Road. Masters Loft on Stratford Rd is going to a strictly on-line presence. Moby’s coffee shops in the area did not last the year. Downtown eateries like Center City Grille are now gone while retail businesses like PIP Printing are leaving downtown.
As they say, things will get worse before they will get better.
