Welcome to the new look of brianleon.com or in this case Leon Magazine. Every year I try to refresh the website with a new look and this year is no different.

The old site was functional enough for the blog portion and was a very clean layout. The main problem I had with it was the multimedia aspect of it. The 400px width of the main section proved to be quite limiting to display photos or embedded video. So I needed a layout that gave more emphasis to the main content at the expense of the sidebar sections which frankly were underutilized.

This style of a blog is called a Magazine style layout which is gaining popularilty among many sites for it categorises content much in the way a magazine does. There is a lead story of the day, featured articles which have prominence on the front page and then the most recent content for the main categories of articles.

One thing I hope to do by switching to this layout is to start writing more often. Outside of the recent posts on the run up to the presidential election, my writing has really fallen off. I have not been as much into writing a much as I have been into my photography. I debate whether to convert the site to a photoblog where all of the posts are just photos but the more I though about it, I still have a desire to write so I will keep up with it for now. If it does not work out, then I will move on to the photoblog.

Right now, the site still has fine tuning to be done but I should have those resolved within a day or two. I will have to go back and clean up some of the previous posts to conform to the new category structure but that will not take long either.
