An another hot day in Winston

Another sweltering day here in Winston. Seems every day is a record high for the area. You can not do much outside yet I went out and valiantly tried to mow the lawn in the heat of the day. It had two weeks of growth and the heat and humidity made it lush and thick in places. With the big back yard that is a lot of effort. I really needed that beer at the end to cool myself down.
The thing about this kind of heat is that it makes you feel totally lazy. Your mind starts shutting down and you find it hard to concentrate even if you are in an air-conditioned office. Every chore outside becomes an ordeal as the heat sucks the energy right out of you. Even cooking something simple is too much and you start thinking about eating out though this economy is not really giving us that option. You do not feel inclined to do anything. All you can think about is finding relief where ever you can.
I wonder before the advent of air conditioners, how the people of the South manage to cope. Did they totally shut down for the summer months like a three month siesta or did they find relief in other ways? The nights must have been unbearable but then again that why they use to talk about hot southern nights.
Two more months before autumn.
