Getting better with video

Not too long ago, Andrea bought herself a new inexpensive camera to more or less replace the one she currently had. She bought it not so much for the photographic capability (she leaves that mostly to me) but for a better video camera that had sound and a capability to take video longer than 30 seconds.

The older camera had video capability but it was limited to 30 second clips with no sound in Quicktime format. It was sufficient for basic needs but that was all it was capable of. Now we can do more with the newer camera.

Initially, I treated the clips as I did with the other ones which is played and upload to Youtube as individual clips. Then I remembered of an application that I had on my computer but never used before, Microsoft’s Movie Maker. So I started up the program and was presented with a screen and capability suitable for my needs. I do not need much; Basically be able to stitch clips together and provide some transition between scenes. The drag and drop functionally was a breeze then I discovered other effects like fading into the scene and then fading out along with building title pages.

No doubt for more serious video fans, the app is probably underpowered and with few options. But unlike my photography I make no pretense in being a decent video editor. But for clips of the family, this does work out well.
